A highly venomous Arabian scorpion, Apistobuthus pterygocerus, leaving its tracks on a sand dune in the Empty Quarter Desert. Straddling Oman, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Yemen, this is the largest sand desert in the world. Mainly nocturnal, these scorpions were fairly common where we camped in the desert (they loved to crawl under our ground sheets) and I was able to photograph this one leaving its tracks on the beautifully coloured sand.
